A man was violently assaulted in Albert Town on Thursday afternoon, police say.
Sergeant Simon Paget, of Wanaka, said the assault took place in Dale St in the town near Wanaka about 12.40pm.
Police received multiple calls after witnesses saw the assault and officers apprehended three males leaving the scene.
Two men, aged 17 and 20, are expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court today facing charges of assault with intent to injure. A 15-year-old male has been referred to Police Youth Aid Section.
"The assault was witnessed by a number of residents who were concerned at the ferocity and duration of the attack on the victim", Mr Paget said.
Police are also appealing for sightings and information regarding a Silver Mitsubishi Chariot vehicle that was involved in the incident and appeared to be set up for freedom camping.
"A male and female in this vehicle are key to our investigation and we would like to speak to them as soon as possible."
The condition of the victim is not known.
