A three-month old Southland baby has been seriously injured following a reported fall at his home.

The baby was flown to Auckland's Starship Hospital after emergency services were called to a home in Riverton about 7.25pm yesterday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Bowman said the baby boy had suffered serious injuries and was unresponsive.

He was taken to Southland Hospital before being stabilised and transferred to Auckland.

Bowman said an investigation into the incident was at an early stage and it was too early for any further details to be released.

The baby's condition remains critical this afternoon.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
