A fire in a Christchurch property is being treated as suspicious.

One fire engine dealt with the Shirley Rd blaze, about 7pm this evening near Shirley Primary School.

Southern fire communications shift manager Andrew Norris said there was no-one in the state house at the time, which was believed to be unoccupied.

He said there were multiple ‘‘seats’’ to the fire inside the house, which indicated it had been deliberately lit.

A fire investigator will check the property this evening to confirm the cause of the blaze.

Is the mayor correct to put libraries, pools and community facilities ahead of the Town Hall?

Absolutely, they're far more important

I think funds should be split between those facilities and the town hall

No, the Town Hall should be rebuilt first

Just demolish the Town Hall completely instead of rebuilding
