Fast food favourites set up shop
Fast food variety in Christchurch is about to take another jump, with a burger chain moving to town and Georgie Pie to be sold in McDonalds.
Velvet Burger, a Dunedin-based chain, is preparing to open a Riccarton Rd store on Tuesday.
George Eason, director at Velvet Burger's parent company Cook Brothers Bars, said the location on the corner of Riccarton Rd and Rotherham St would hopefully attract plenty of students when the university year starts next month.
Eason said the reaction so far had been positive, and he thought there would be good response from locals.
"Christchurch just seems like it's got a good buzz at the moment."
Meanwhile nostalgic Georgie Pie fans will be able to get their fix at McDonalds restaurants around the city from Monday.
Georgie Pie was only sold in Christchurch for a short time in the 1990s, with a Riccarton store opening in 1994 but closing a few years later.
Pies will be sold at McDonalds stores in Kaiapoi, Rangiora, Merivale, Moorhouse, Rolleston, Sydenham, Hornby, Riccarton, Linwood and Christchurch Airport.
McDonald's began a national rollout of Georgie Pie sales in October.
