Christchurch police are appealing for information about an altercation between a man and a woman on Bealey Ave just after 7pm last night.

A bystander told The Press she saw a "big beefy" man, wearing only underwear, smash the window of a car parked in front of his car opposite the Southern Cross Hospital.

The man climbed through the window and pushed the female driver into the passenger seat.

"She was kicking and screaming and trying to get away."

The bystander, who did not want to be named, said a colleague phoned policebut the man drove away before they could get there.

Police are interested in two vehicles in relation to the incident - a white Toyota Caldina with the registration DAA998, and a grey Mitsubishi Lancer with the registration EAW703.
