Theft-hit family offered new car
A Christchurch couple have been blown away by the generosity of Cantabrians after their car was stolen while they were at Christchurch Hospital.
Nathan Thompson's fiancee, Shannon Weir was rushed to hospital last week due to complications in her pregnancy. She had an emergency Caesarean section. Both baby and mother were safe and sound. So far, so good.
The next morning, Thompson left the hospital to collect his two-year-old son to meet his new baby brother. He discovered the family's maroon Nissan Bluebird had been stolen from Oxford Tce.
This week, Thompson and Weir had been flooded with offers of support.
Christchurch car dealership Cockram Nissan and Nissan New Zealand partnered up to offer the couple $2000 towards a new car, and Plunket partner Miles Toyota will lend them a new RAV4 loan car in the meantime.
Plunket has also offered replacement car seats for newborn Carter, and brother Koen.
Wedding celebrant Tania Johnson-Scott said she would be happy to marry the couple, no charge, later in the year.
''Everyone's support has been unbelievable,'' Thompson said.
''It's left us absolutely speechless.''
Both Weir and baby Carter were recovering well.
