New Bower pub's giant container structure
A couple of "open" signs was all it took.
The reincarnation of the quake-hit Bower Tavern on Monday opened its doors on the corner of New Brighton Rd and Bower Ave.
The land was written off as part of the Government's post-quake zoning, despite being a commercial property.
The Bower, as it is now called, has since been rebuilt using 18 steel containers.
Owner Katrina Hargen said the new-look tavern was "busy", despite little publicity or advertising of the opening date.
"We just had a couple of 'open' signs out," she said.
The Bower was initially expected to open in January, but "lots of changes to consents", meant it was pushed back.
It is believed to be the largest container structure in the city.
