More than 20 flights arriving at or departing from Christchurch Airport have been delayed or cancelled this morning.

Heavy morning fog has dealyed flights travelling to or from Blenheim, Hokitika, Palmerston North, Auckland, Wellington, Tauranga, Napier and Dunedin.

Another six flights travelling to or from Nelson, Invercargill and Hamilton have been cancelled.

Christchurch Airport spokeswoman Yvonne Densem said the airport was open and some flights were still arriving and departing.

"The regional airlines are having issues all over the country... part of that is because of the weather conditions in other areas," she said.

Passengers are advised to check flight details on the Christchurch Airport website or directly with their airlines.

JetStar spokesman Phil Boeyen said one flight travelling from Auckland to Christchurch had been delayed by the fog this morning, affecting about 160 passengers.

All other Jetstar flights travelling to and from Christchurch were now operating as normal, he said.
