Search back on for missing tourist
Improving weather conditions have allowed the search for a German tourist missing in the Nelson Lakes National Park to resume today.
The search for 19-year-old Christian Ulf Erik Prehn had been delayed this week as snow and heavy rain made conditions difficult.
Search coordinator Senior Dave Colville said three search teams were being flown back into the Travers Saddle area this morning.
The teams were equipped for an overnight stay if needed, he said.
The search for Prehn was launched after his backpack was found beside a track on Saturday. Enquiries revealed the well-equipped backpack could have been there since February 25.
Prehn's family in Germany had been kept up-to-date with the search.
Police still wanted to talk to anyone who may have seen or spoken to Prehn before his disappearance.
Anyone with information is asked to call Nelson police on 03 546 3840.
