A missing Christchurch man's personal belongings have been found on a beach on the West Coast.

Christchurch police are "urgently seeking" 30-year-old Kurt Millan Green, who was last seen in the Blaketown beach area near Greymouth, on March 9.

He was previously believed to have been last seen in Sydenham on March 8.

Police today confirmed his bag, shoes and socks had been located on Blaketown beach last week. A search team was in the area today, scouring the beach on both sides of the Grey River mouth.

Police had earlier said Green had a "diminished mental capacity".

Detective Sergeant Sarah Illingworth said the case remained a missing person inquiry.

"We know Mr Green travelled from Christchurch to the West Coast on Saturday March 8, and that he stayed with friends in the Blaketown area that night," she said.

"He was last seen walking from their address towards the Blaketown tip head on Sunday, March 9.

"We remain concerned for Mr Green as he has not been in contact with family or friends since that time, which is out character for him."

Police have also released a photograph of Green taken on the night of March 8, showing him wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt. He is described as 180cm (5ft 11in) tall, of medium build.

Anyone with any information should contact Christchurch Police on 03 363 7400.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
