A teenager has been arrested in connection with a fight which left a 19-year-old man with serious head injuries.

The 18-year-old has been charged with injuring with intent to injure and two counts of common assault and is scheduled to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Friday.

He was arrested in Riccarton, without incident, last night, police said.

Yesterday, police said the 19-year-old man suffered serious injuries during the fight which spanned across two houses in Tonga Pl and Centennial Ave, on Sunday morning.

This morning, the victim was in a comfortable condition in Christchurch Hospital and no longer in the intensive care unit.

Police said the attack was one of two serious assaults they were investigating from the weekend.

A man suffered serious injuries after a group of people arrived at a home in Ottawa Rd, Wainoni, and attacked him and a woman, about 1.30pm on Saturday.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Illingworth said the victims lived at the same house and police believed the group responsible was known to them. A scene examination at the property was completed yesterday.

"We are following strong leads, but are also appealing for any information from anyone who can help identify those involved, or who saw any suspicious activity in the area."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Christchurch police on (03) 363 7400.
