Members of the Deconstruction Orchestra created a five-minute tribute telling Christchurch's story using chainsaws, sledgehammers and traditional instruments at the Pallet Pavilion.
The farewell to the Gap Filler's community venue on Saturday included a musical representation of the quake - loud rumblings and the gurgling noises of liquefaction.
Deconstruction of the pavilion will start today. The site will then be landscaped.
Gap Filler Project co-ordinator Trent Hiles said a "sports and athletics" project was planned for the site next summer.
