Onesie world record attempt
Crowds flock to onesie world record attempt
It wasn’t quite enough to break a Guinness World Record but Christchurch has proven itself the onesie capital of New Zealand.
A total of 831 onesie lovers took part in a Guinness World Record attempt for the biggest gathering of onesie wearers, organised by The Warehouse.
Christchurch’s Eastgate store attracted 278 people, beating the turnout at Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin stores.
The Warehouse Eastgate store manager Debbie Smith said the competition was fierce.
“Cantabrians of all ages got into the spirit of the day and despite not breaking the record on this occasion, [it] was as much about creating a whole lot of fun for Kiwi families around the country and, from the reaction we’ve seen on attendees’ faces, we achieved that,” she said.
Donations from the public who took part in the record attempt would go to The Parenting Place.
The current Guinness World Record for ‘largest gathering of people wearing one-piece pyjamas’ is 1,184, held by Ringwood School in Ringwood, Hampshire, United Kingdom.
Wellington had the lowest turnout with 129, followed by Dunedin at 185 and Auckland where 239 onsie wearers attended.
