Small quake rocks Canterbury
An earthquake has hit this morning north-west of Christchurch.
GNS Science says the magnitude 3.1 quake was recorded at 8:44 am, and was centred within 5 km of Oxford.
It had a depth of 3 km.
Yesterday a magnitude 3 quake was recorded within 5 km of Christchurch itself.
The region has been suffering a series of earthquakes over the Christmas period, including a magnitude 4.9 tremor on Boxing Day that caused more damage to buildings and structures.
