Next year's biennial Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games have been moved from Christchurch to Lower Hutt.

The 2012 games were due to be hosted in Christchurch, but following last month's devastating earthquake they had to be moved, games director Alison Murray said.

The week-long event will have participants from the police, fire, ambulance and other services, from New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands competing in more than 40 sports.
