New design for Strange's department store site
ARTIST'S IMPRESSION: Just-released designs by Sheppard & Rout Architects show plans for the High St corner.

The former Strange's department store, on the corner of High and Lichfield Sts, was built in 1899.

It has housed many businesses and tenants over the decades.

It suffered badly in the quake and looks even grimmer in snow.

Developer KPI Rothschild plans another wedged-shaped building, with retail and cafes at street level and office floors above.

Not shown in the artist's impression is Stranges Lane, which runs between High to Lichfield, and which will be developed for hospitality tenants.
