The Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand will present its annual air-quality award on Thursday.

The award acknowledges individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to understanding and improving the environment.

Previous winners include former Environment Canterbury air-quality scientist Bob Ayrey, Paul Sintes for his work designing cleaner log burners, and the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic for being the first commercially available hybrid cars in New Zealand.

University of Newcastle, Australia, associate professor Howard Bridgman will talk at the ceremony in Christchurch.
