A sharp-eyed reader of The Press has spotted a large-scale typo in Cathedral Square.

The Christchurch City Council "no stopping" sign went up with a glaring spelling mistake, adding an extra "r" into Cathedral.

A council spokeswoman said staff were looking into how the sign got through without anyone picking up the mistake.

The misspelt sign has been in Cathedral Square for about four weeks.

A worker was seen removing the sign this afternoon, and the council said it would be replaced as soon as possible.
