A car has hit a pedestrian in central Christchurch today.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said the man was hit on Kipling St, near Brougham St, about 11:10am.

He was taken by ambulance to Christchurch Hospital with moderate to serious injuries.

The driver of the car was not injured.
