The road between Governors Bay and Rapaki could be closed for up to 10 hours after a truck carrying a digger crashed on a "nasty bend".

A police spokesman said the road was "totally" closed following the crash on a "nasty bend" just before 12pm today.

The driver was not injured in the crash, but two cranes were needed to move the toppled truck and digger from the road.

The road was expected to be closed for at least six hours, possibly up to 10, between Dyers Pass Rd and Omaru Rd.

The driver involved in the crash told The Press he was ok, but "trying to get over what's happened" and declined to comment further.
