One person has been flown to hospital after a car crashed into a power pole near Darfield.

The crash happened on West Coast Rd, just west of Darfield, at 10.45am today.

A St John spokeswoman said one person was flown by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Christchurch Hospital for further treatment.

No one else was believed to be injured in the crash.

A police spokesman said State Highway 73 has since reopened.
