A woman has been killed after the van she was in collided with a truck near Rolleston.

The woman, in her 50s, died in the Main South Rd crash just after 11pm yesterday.

A police spokesman said it appeared the van had been doing a U-turn when it was hit by the truck.

Two other people in the van were taken to Christchurch Hospital.

The police spokesman said their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Constable Liz Johnson, of Rolleston police, said the woman was from the Christchurch area and had been a passenger in the van.

Her name was not likely to be released until tomorrow, after next of kin had been notified.

Police would not discuss any other details of the crash until then, including the deceased woman's exact age, Johnson said.
