Two people are in a serious condition in hospital after their motorcycle collided with another bike.

Three people were taken to Christchurch Hospital after two motorcycles collided on State Highway 75 about 4.50pm yesterday, a St John Ambulance spokesman said.

The crash happened near the intersection with Kaituna Valley Rd, between Birdlings Flat and Motukarara.

A Canterbury District Health Board spokesman said a man and woman - the driver and passenger of one of the motorcycles - were both in a serious condition in hospital this morning.

There was no update available on the third person.
