There were spills aplenty in Mandeville as riders battled their four-legged beasts to stay upright.

Warm weather brought a strong crowd to this year's Canterbury Rodeo, many in traditional cowboy hats.

By contrast many of the riders now wear protective helmets to guard against injury during the countless hard landings.

The rodeo included a range of challenges from bareback horse riding, bull and sheep riding, and roping.
