Two motorcyclists have been injured after crashing in separate parts of North Canterbury at almost exactly the same time.

The first crash occurred on Waikari Valley Rd, near Scargill, at 1.30pm.

A St John spokeswoman said the Westpac Rescue Helicopter transported one patient to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries.

Just two minutes later, police were called to another motorcycle crash in Lewis Pass.

A police spokesman said the motorcyclist had been "lying on the side of the road" when he was found on Lewis Pass Rd, near Island Hills.

He also sustained moderate injuries, and was taken by ambulance to Christchurch Hospital.

There was not believed to be any other vehicles involved in either crash.
