Firefighters are dealing with a blaze at a timber yard in Christchurch.

The fire was reported at a timber yard on Broughs Rd, in Harewood, about 11.40am today.

A Fire Service spokesman said three fire crews rushed to the yard after a fire was reported in the roof of a building.

It was initially thought more firefighters might be needed, but the alarm was soon downgraded.

"The fire was visible as they were approaching ... but they found it wasn't too serious."

No workers at the yard were injured in the fire, the spokesman said.
