Queen Elizabeth II Drive has reopened after a serious crash that sent two people to Christchurch Hospital.

A police spokesman said it appeared a car had become wedged between two trucks in QEII Drive, just east of the intersection with Marshland Rd, shortly before 8am today.

The road was closed to all traffic for about four hours.

The female driver and sole occupant of the car was taken to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries, while one of the truck drivers was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

The police serious-crash unit is investigating.
