The man killed in a motorcycle crash near West Melton has been named as Kenneth William Millar. 

The 27-year-old Christchurch man died after colliding with irrigation equipment on a farm property West Coast Rd on Saturday afternoon.

Police spokesman Stephen Hill said enquiries indicated Millar and a friend were riding farm bikes on the farm property when the crash happened. 

Millar died at the scene. 

His death is not considered part of the official road toll because it happened on private property and off-road.
