Robbies held up by masked gunman
A Christchurch bar worker was left shaken after a masked intruder confronted him with a shotgun.
Police were called to Robbies Bar and Bistro on Cranford St about 9.45pm yesterday after an armed robber tried to get into the premises.
The incident happened while a worker was closing the bar for the night.
Detective Sergeant Sarah Illingworth said the barman was confronted by a man wearing a balaclava and carrying a shotgun.
The worker and a patron were able to close the doors on the offender, who then fled the scene.
"I believe there's no injuries," she said.
Witnesses reported seeing two men running from the premises, then a dark-coloured four-door car speeding away.
A scene examination was still underway at the bar this afternoon.
Bar owner John Bentley said no cash or items were taken during the robbery and the bar was expected to reopen later today.
"Everybody's OK. They're shaken. I can't say anything else because we don't know anything."
Illingworth said police wanted to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area between 9.30pm and 10pm.
