Contractors hit a water main causing significant flooding on a road in Woolston this morning.

The Christchurch Transport Operations Centre warned motorists to drive slowly on Dyers Rd, between Palinarus Rd and Ti Rakau Dr, where about 200 millimetres of water covered parts of the road this morning.

However, travel adviser Tresca Forrester said this afternoon the surface flooding was receding and contractors were working to fix the main.

She said traffic was flowing at reduced speed so road users could still suffer some delays on the drive home.
