A burst water pipe at a busy central Christchurch intersection disrupted traffic this morning.

Police assisted traffic flow at the intersection of Waltham Rd and Brougham St after a water main burst about 9.10am.

A police spokesman said the road remained open, but staff were on site to help control traffic.

The water was back on by noon, a council spokeswoman said.
