Three people have been taken to Christchurch Hospital after three crashes in the city.

A woman suffered serious injuries when two cars collided near the intersection of Racecourse Rd and Epsom St, Sockburn, just after 8am today.

A St John spokesman said the woman was taken to hospital, while a "shaken" man was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

In the second incident, a motorist crashed through a fence in Shirley.

Emergency services were called to the Joy St property about 9am.

The St John spokesman said the male driver was taken to hospital, but the extent of his injuries were not clear.

About the same time, a cyclist and a truck collided on a busy Christchurch road.

The crash happened near the intersection of Brougham and Selwyn streets in Sydenham.

St John said the male cyclist was taken to hospital with minor to moderate leg injuries.
