'Bogan' smashes woman's car with hammer
A Christchurch woman has been left shaken after a "bogan" smashed her car window with a hammer in a random attack early today.
Emma Cameron was driving her friends home after a 21st birthday party when another car pulled up next to hers on the corner of Tennyson and Colombo streets about 2am.
She didn't notice the car until the driver leaned out his window and smashed her passenger window with a hammer.
Broken glass landed on the passengers, who were shaken but unhurt.
"He drove really close to us, bashed the hammer, then turned down Tennyson St. Luckily he missed the main window and struck the small triangle window instead but my friend Nick was covered in glass," Cameron said.
"I didn't realise what had happened at first, I thought a bird had hit my window."
Although Cameron did not get a good look at the offender or the car, she said her boyfriend did and described it as "a dark or charcoal hatchback full of bogans".
She said she was unsure why they had been targeted and believed the offender had attacked their car "just for kicks".
"It was an unprovoked incident," Cameron said.
"We had just been at an awesome 21st and no-one in the car recognised the guy with the hammer, or his car, although my boyfriend thinks that it had followed us from Moorhouse Ave."
She hoped the police would be able to shed light on the incident.
"Maybe one of the shops has security cameras and caught it?" Cameron said.
"I'm just glad I wasn't on my own in the car when it happened."
