A woman has died after the car she was driving collided with a truck that was carrying a house.
The woman died after hitting a wide-load truck carrying a house on State Highway 1 in Tinwald, near Ashburton, about 10.45am today.
Police spokesman Stephen Hill said the truck was accompanied by pilot vehicles in front and behind.
The deceased woman was the sole occupant of the car.
Initial enquiries indicated she had driven directly into the house trailer.
She died at the scene.
Hill said an investigation into the circumstances of the crash were continuing and Ashburton police were speaking to witnesses.
Police also wanted to speak to the driver of a green Subaru station wagon seen driving south through the area just before the crash.
The police serious crash unit and commercial vehicle investigation unit were at the crash site.
State Highway 1 is closed at Winslow and diversions through Long Beach, Boundary and Lynford roads are expected to remain in place for several areas.
