Arsonists are believed to have targeted another Christchurch home last night - the 12th suspicious house fire in the city in less than three weeks.

Firefighters were called to the house fire in Palmers Rd, New Brighton, about 10pm yesterday.

The fire ripped through the exterior of the building and had spread into the roof when emergency services arrived, a Fire Service spokesman said.

The house had been red-zoned and was believed to have been unoccupied when the fire started.

The spokesman said the incident was being treated as suspicious.

Fire safety investigators would be at the scene this morning and police were also investigating.

It followed the suspected arson of another abandoned home in the residential red zone about 11.40pm on Monday.

A scene examination was expected to have been carried out at the Waitaki St, Bexley, home yesterday by police and the Fire Service.

On Saturday, a "personal targeted attack" saw a Spreydon home ransacked and set on fire after paint was thrown through rooms and offensive messages scrawled on the walls.

Ammie Robinson, her husband and two daughters returned to their Meadowville Ave home that evening to find their home a "complete write-off".

''The graffiti is through the house, on the furniture, on the walls, on mirrors - everywhere," she said.

Police were still investigating the incident and asked for anyone in the area between 6pm and 7pm on Saturday to phone them on (03) 363 7693.
