An abandoned house on Linwood Ave has been torched for the third time.

Firefighters were called to the scene of the fire on Linwood Ave near KFC just before 1am, today.

They found the property well ablaze and by the time the flames were doused it had sustained significant damage.

Fire Communications shift manager Riwai Grace said it was thought to be the third time the abandoned house had been set alight and the latest incident was being treated as suspicious. Investigators would be at the scene today.

"Someone's obviously got a grudge against this house," Grace said.

"It's quite common for arsonists to [return] to properties they've hit before."

Investigators will also be at the scene of a suspicious fire in Invercargill today.

Firefighters spent more than two hours dousing the fire at an abandoned house in Crinan St, Appleby after they were called there about 8pm, yesterday.

The property was extensively damaged, Grace said.
