Armed police failed to find a wanted offender after swooping on a Christchurch house last night.

Multiple police officers, including members of the armed offenders squad, were sent to a property on Dudley St, Richmond, about 9pm last night in relation to a person wanted for arrest.

It was believed police cordoned off the part surrounding area while the incident was underway.

A police spokesman said the wanted offender was not found, but a 31-year-old Christchurch man was stopped by police after leaving the address and arrested on unrelated drugs charges.

The spokesman was unable to say anything further about the wanted person at this stage.
