A cyclist has been taken to Christchurch Hospital with leg injuries after being hit by a car at a busy intersection.

Police said the incident happened just before 8am today on the corner of Hills Rd and Akaroa St in Mairehau. 

The woman, believed to be aged about 26, was taken by ambulance to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries.

Traffic was not affected by the crash, police said.
