A burst water main is causing traffic delays in Hansons Lane, Riccarton.

Diversions around the site are expected to remain in place this morning, causing problems with rush hour traffic, especially those turning from Hanson's Lane right into Riccarton Road.

Christchurch Transport Operations Centre has suggested drivers use Blenheim Road and Wharenui Road to access Riccarton Road.

CTOC did not know when the problem would be resolved.

Meanwhile, a lengthy sunny spell this week will be broken up with morning fog this morning with occasional drizzle today and through the weekend.

The Garden City will reach a high of 13degC in the afternoon.

The weekend will be mostly fine with occasional drizzle and cloudy periods.

However, for those keen to head for the ski slopes fine days and light winds are forecast for today and throughout the weekend at Mt Hutt, and similar weather with some fog at Porters.
