Roadside signs to show real-time traffic info
Message boards giving motorists a heads-up on the amount of traffic ahead will soon be installed on Christchurch roads.
Traffic information company AraFlow Ltd has been commissioned by the NZ Transport Agency and the Christchurch City Council to provide real-time travel information in Christchurch.
The year-long trial, beginning in November, will see new technology installed around the city to relay information on roadworks, detours, road closures and delays back to a central operations centre.
The information would then be broadcast to road users through roadside message boards and online, with the aim of making it easier for drivers to move around the city.
Roads to be monitored include State Highway 1 from Belfast to Hornby, the Christchurch Southern Motorway and State Highway 76 between Hornby and Lyttelton.
Data recorded during the trial would also be available for use by transport planners for future roading plans.
