Car occupant being cut from crash
One person is trapped in their car after it collided with another, flipped and hit a tree in Woodend - the second serious crash in North Canterbury this afternoon.
Emergency services have blocked State Highway 1 after the two-car crash about 1.36pm, just south of Woodend near the intersection with Woodend Beach Rd.
A police spokesman said early indications were that two cars collided, and one flipped and rolled into a tree.
An occupant of this car was trapped and was being cut from the vehicle.
A St John spokeswoman said three patients had been transported to hospital. One was in a serious condition, and two had moderate injuries.
A diversion was in place around the crash, using Woodend Beach Rd and Sandhill Rd.
