Police have confirmed a body found on a remote West Coast beach last week is missing Christchurch man Kurt Green.

The 30-year-old's body was found on Rapahoe Beach, north of Greymouth, late on Wednesday last week.

He was found by a Search and Rescue team after a member of the public alerted police to the possibility of human remains in the area.

On Saturday, police searched the coastal area near where his body was found for any further remains, but found nothing.

Green had been missing since March 9, when he was last seen in the Blaketown beach area.

West Coast police area commander Inspector John Canning said Green's family was notified on Friday that the body had been identified as Kurt Green.

''It's very sad for the family but at least they do know what became of him.''

The death has now been referred to the coroner.
