Christchurch has cloudy weather in store and traffic disruptions on Barbadoes St and St Asaph St.

Christchurch's weather menu for the rest of the week features clouds, clouds and more clouds, but Saturday should be a pearler.

The MetService is forecasting northeast winds, clouds and a high of 10 degrees Celsius in the city today.

Cloud cover will remain in place for the rest of the working week, with drizzle in the mix tomorrow.

Saturday looks good though, with the MetService forecasting sunshine and a high of 16 degrees.

Road works have today reduced both Barbadoes and St Asaph Street to one lane here.

Drivers are asked to avoid Barbadoes and St Asaph Sts in Christchurch today due to road works.

The Christchurch Transport Operations Centre (CTOC) says both streets are reduced to one lane.

Barbadoes St is busy and St Asaph St will become busier as the morning progresses.

CTOC recommended those travelling westbound to use Moorhouse Ave and for those travelling south to use Fitzgerald Ave.

The work should be completed by the end of today.

Meanwhile, New Brighton Rd is now one way going east between Bassett St and Stour Dr.

The restriction started this week and will continue until early next month. A detour for west-bound drivers is in place via Stour Dr, Vivian St and Reginald St.
