Rain, sleet and freezing temperatures will bring challenging conditions in Christchurch for the second week of the school holidays.

This morning's rain is expected to clear in the city but tonight will see a -2 degree Celsius frost. It will dawn to a sunny day on Tuesday but cold southwesterlies with bring a chilly end to the day with sleety showers late tomorrow.
The MetService is forecasting these more sleety showers on Wednesday and Thursday with below-freezing temperatures overnight.
However, skiers will be celebrating with fresh snow last night and two days of sunshine forecast for Mt Hutt on Tuesday and Wednesday.
For those holidaying further south, Queenstown has had a low of -0.6C and last night snow began in Tekapo about 8pm. The township is thickly blanketed in snow this morning.
