A few days of showers will interrupt Christchurch's winter sunshine this week.

Although temperatures have remained cold, Christchurch residents have been basking in several days of sunshine.

The sun will stick around today, along with light winds, increasing high cloud and a high of 12 degrees Celsius, Metservice reports.

Showers are expected to break up the winter sun tomorrow though, with brief showers and southwesterlies forecast in the morning and afternoon.

A high of 11C is expected.

The showers will continue on Thursday, but will clear late in the day as the southwesterly winds die out.

The sun returns on Friday, although the temperature will only just make it to double figures.

More rain is forecast on Saturday, but the sun should be back on Sunday and is forecast to stay through the first half of next week.

Metservice has no weather watches or warnings for Canterbury this week.
