Results are in and it's confirmed what we all knew - last month was wet and cold in the South Island.
Rainfall levels in most of the country were "well above normal" and in addition to the gloom, temperatures were around two degrees below average for inland and eastern parts of the South Island.
Niwa's climate summary for June confirmed it was a "very wet month".
During the month, heavy flooding was recorded in parts of Otago and Canterbury.
Roads across the country were closed by surface flooding and slips as a result of the rain.
The wet weather carried on from May where torrential rain soaked the country.
Some areas did escape the deluge with below-average rainfall levels recorded on the West Coast, in Fiordland, and across much of Southland.
While it was "extremely" sunny in lower parts of the South Island, the total number of sunshine hours at 125 percent of normal, much of the country was not so lucky.
It was extremely cloudy in Nelson and Marlborough and around Christchurch, where sunshine totals were between 75 and 90 percent of normal.
Blenheim's bad month was rounded out by its lowest total of June sunshine hours since records in the region began in 1947.
The lowest temperature was -10.7°C, recorded at Lake Tekapo on the June 9, with the highest one-day rainfall, 198 mm, recorded at North Egmont on June 28.
Of the six main centres, Auckland was the warmest and sunniest, Christchurch the coolest, Hamilton the wettest, and Dunedin the driest.
