Cashmere show way in Mainland league

Cashmere Technical remain top of the Mainland premier football league after a successful Easter weekend points haul.

John Brown's team beat Nelson Suburbs 2-1 on Saturday with two first-half goals by striker Dan Ede cancelled out by Gagame Feni's strike for Nelson.

Cashmere Tech also had a 1-1 draw with champions Ferrymead Bays yesterday.

If Ash Welbourn got as many Easter eggs as goals this past weekend, he'd be a replete young man after netting five times in two matches. Welbourn's goals glut allowed Coastal Spirit to consolidate second place – one point behind Cashmere Tech.

Feni continued his goal-a-game streak with a brace in Nelson's 3-0 win over FC Twenty 11. His Solomon Islands compatriot, Wesley Olea, netted in the second half.

Halswell United had a 3-0 win yesterday over Christchurch United but lost 2-1 to FC Twenty 11.
