The Press Cup will again go to one of the two most successful schools in the competition.
Four times defending champion St Bede's College will play the competition's best team of 2012, Christchurch Boys' High School, in the showdown this weekend after both had convincing semifinal wins.
In a replay of last year's final, St Bede's were too strong for Nelson College 29-7 while Boys' High, unbeaten in this year's Press Cup, rolled St Andrew's College 37-3.
The Press Cup has only been around since 2001, but this weekend's finalists have a near duopoly on the title. St Bede's has won the last four titles while Boys' High won the first six. Only the solitary title to Nelson College in 2007 breaks the domination of the two Christchurch schools.
The Press Plate - for the bottom four teams in section one - will be a non-Christchurch affair.
South Canterbury's Roncalli College beat Christ's College 18-14 in a nail-biting semifinal in Timaru and will play Marlborough Boys' High in the final after they beat Timaru Boys' High 30-23 in Blenheim on Saturday.
Shirley Boys' High will have a chance to keep the Press Bowl in Christchurch when they play Waimea College in the final.
Shirley beat St Thomas' of Canterbury 28-19 at Shirley while Waimea hosted and toasted Ashburton College 38-10.
Two Canterbury country schools will keep alive the strong Ellesmere-North Canterbury rivalry in the Press Shield.
Rangiora High beat Nayland College 44-3 on Saturday and will meet Lincoln High in the final after they beat Burnside 34-21.
