Injuries and late withdrawals from this week's New Zealand Open have ballooned the number of spots on offer at today's qualifying tournament at the Russley Golf Course.
Originally 10 places were on offer and that number jumped to 19 last night, but this morning there were a whopping 26 spots up for grabs.
Less than 100 players - both professionals and amateurs - are teeing up at Russley today in an attempt to earn a start in the New Zealand Open, which begins on Thursday at the Clearwater Golf Course.
Scoring was solid this morning with little wind and Christchurch amateur and Canterbury team member Tom Turner is the early leader with a two-under par 70 and looks certain to qualify.
Anything less than 74 should qualify, a New Zealand Golf spokesperson said.
