Jamie Duff took out round four of the $60,000 War of the Wings sprintcar series at Ruapuna Speedway on Saturday night with only seconds separating the top three drivers in the 20-lap feature.

Lindsay Gilbert produced the drive of the night to claim second place from Cromwell's Jason Scott.

Duff and Scott started on the front row, with Duff quickly hitting the front from Scott and Greg Teece. Duff set an electric pace and was lapping rivals by the fifth lap. Teece and Gilbert were having a great battle for third place with Gilbert's breathtaking, fence-wide racing line finally seeing him move into third place on lap 13.

Duff maintained his lead, at one stage passing rivals two wide coming off the turns, while Scott then had to try and defend second place from the hard charging Gilbert. With five laps to race Gilbert pulled off another brilliant outside pass to claim a well deserved second to Duff. Scott headed home Teece, from Daniel Anderson and Ray Baughan.

In the TQ Midget section, black ribbons were attached to cars as a mark of respect to Ryan Stone, a three-time South Island champion, after the 38-year-old lost his battle with cancer on Friday.
